Unlike the actual game, this chess game has no winners. The effect on and damage to children is often long lasting. The only way to win is to refuse to play, no one can play alone. Children are precious and it is difficult enough for them to navigate their new family dynamics. Children’s needs should be considered and be made a priority throughout the process of separation and divorce.
We should all applaud Calgary couple, Chris and Shannon Neuman whose selfie outside the courthouse has recently gone viral. They refused to let their divorce get ugly and to instead make their children’s well-being a priority every step of the way.
